It is being told that this has been done due to high arrival of milk. Till now milk was being purchased from milkmen at the rate of Rs 53 per litre. Now it has been reduced by Rs 4 to Rs 49 per litre. The milkmen say that they are asking the shopkeepers and dairy operators to reduce their wages by two rupees and the dairy operators by two rupees. Our prices have been reduced, but they are selling milk to customers at only Rs 58 per kg. In protest against this, they laid siege on Agra, Mathura Road and Bauner Mor on the evening of March 1 and did not allow milk to arrive.

Prices reached Rs 60-65, demand for bags increased

All the shops ran out of milk in the evening. Those who had milk sold it at Rs 60-65 a litre. Due to lack of supply, the sale of milk bags of other brands including Amul has increased in the market.

Today the crisis may deepen further

Due to this strike, the milk crisis in the city may deepen further on March 2. Milkmen say that until the decision is taken, milk will not be supplied. There does not seem to be any agreement regarding the price between the milkmen and the sweets and milk sellers association.

Milk sellers stood with sticks on Mathura Road, Agra Road and Bauner turn of the city since Friday evening. Dinesh, Inderpal, Vinod, Shailu, Dhiru, Dheeraj, Neeraj, Hemendra Kumar etc. present here stopped the milkmen carrying milk in the city. Some insisted on going to the city and there was an argument about this. The milkmen said that they will not supply milk to them until their demand is agreed to by the Sweet Sellers Association. Someone should also ask the customers why they are not able to get cheap milk?

Whatever dispute there is between shopkeepers and milk sellers regarding milk prices will be resolved through negotiations. Since milk is a common need of the people, people will not be allowed to suffer at any cost. In such a situation, those who forcibly stop the supply of milk will be dealt with strictly.
